Training, Consultancy, Awareness, and Community Services

Training, consultancy, awareness, and community services are among the most important activities of the office. They contribute effectively to the development of technical and engineering plans and projects in accordance with international engineering standards, serving the state’s plans and raising community awareness about the importance of these projects and how to preserve the environment, while considering future development opportunities.

Training Services

The Geological Society’s Consulting Office offers a comprehensive set of training services in various fields, including:

  • Training on supervising legally licensed quarries.

  • Intensive training courses to qualify for working as site geologists at oil well locations.

  • Training on the use of geological computer applications.

  • Courses in geological surveying, geophysical surveying, mineral exploration, biochemical surveying, and the use of remote sensing in mineral exploration.

  • Specialized courses in engineering geology applications (tunnels, roads, bridges, dams, and multi-story buildings).

The office also organizes structured training programs, workshops, and seminars aimed at enhancing technical knowledge in geology, environmental sciences, resource management, and water well drilling. These courses are delivered by experienced experts and cover fundamental principles as well as advanced analytical methods. Their purpose is to strengthen the technical capacity of geologists, engineers, planners, academics, and government officials working in geology-related fields and applications.

Consultancy Services

Technical geological consultancy is one of the most important services provided by the office to external beneficiaries. It covers topics such as natural resources, resource protection, environmental conservation, and the use of renewable energy sources, while taking sustainable development into account.

The office brings together Iraqi and foreign expertise to form an integrated advisory body, providing professional consultation to concerned parties while considering the latest global developments. Consultancy services include:

  • Geological surveys and mineral analysis.

  • Multi-purpose geophysical surveys.

  • Geochemical and hydrogeological surveys.

  • Geological studies for project site selection and raw material reserves for cement, gypsum, brick, and other extractive industries.

  • Assessing site suitability from an engineering geology perspective (bridges, roads, dams).

  • Advising on the impacts of climate and environmental changes related to energy resources and related projects.

These services are typically contracted by government agencies, municipalities, private companies, and international organizations requiring accurate geological data and specialized analysis. Consultancy projects are carried out on a fee basis when customized outputs are needed, with full commitment to transparency, ethical standards, and scientific principles.

Awareness and Community Participation

The office plays a major role in raising community awareness, particularly on issues related to the use of natural resources and pollution risks. It also highlights the negative impacts of water misuse and contamination from wastewater, as well as risks from multi-purpose projects.

The office works to inform the community about the dangers of landslides, earthquakes, and floods, providing guidance on how to prevent risks and how to respond before, during, and after such events.

In addition, the office contributes to strengthening scientific culture and encouraging community dialogue, ensuring that geology remains at the heart of sustainable development efforts in Iraq.
