The Iraqi Geological Conformity Committee, in cooperation with the Iraqi Geological Survey and the University of Sulaymaniyah, organized a field workshop in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

Under the auspices of the Geologists Syndicate/General Center, and in the presence of the Head of the Geologists Syndicate, Mr. Saad Obaid Muhammad, the Iraqi Geological Conformity Committee, in cooperation with the Iraqi Geological Survey and the University of Sulaymaniyah, organized a field workshop in Sulaymaniyah Governorate from April 14 to 17, 2025. A group of 15 Iraqi geologists, including specialists and professors from Iraqi universities (Mosul, Baghdad, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah, and Soran), participated in the workshop. The areas of Mawat, Darbandikhan, and the Baranan, Qardagh, and Sagarma mountains were visited to review proposed new rock units or reclassify them according to the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) guidelines, and to update geological maps.
